– Adolescent Socio-Emotional and Relationship Learning Programs –
The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives. (Esther Perel)

From 1995 to the current time, a period of over 30 years, I dedicated my career to adolescent needs that extend beyond the classroom. This commitment led me to attend conferences such as Mind and Its Potential and the World Thinkers Conference, visit school ‘open days’, and travel interstate to explore different educational environments. My journey took me to universities and international institutions, ensuring I remained at the forefront of evolving learning processes. There has been a constant desire and interest for innovation such as in implementing immersion learning and treks to the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia, Life Camps in Natimuk (Victoria), simulated questioning techniques, or embedding the role of service and mindfulness as core components of adolescent learning, and recognising the crucial role of the learning environment in change.
The recent Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing Report (2025) highlights a pressing concern: mental disorders and expressions of distress (such as self-harm), constitute the single largest cause of disease burden among adolescents. This generation – the first true digital natives – relies on technology as its primary reference point. While this brings undeniable opportunities, it also exposes young people to risks such as cyberbullying, violence, and misinformation. Furthermore, environmental degradation, food insecurity, and family fragmentation add layers of stress to their lived experience. This reality underscores a fundamental truth: material success alone does not foster genuine wellbeing. With over a billion adolescents aged between 10 to 19 years of age worldwide, the need for healthy, resilient, and empowered young people working toward a more equitable, meaningful, and peaceful society has never been greater.
Adolescence is a time of ideas, aspirations, and creativity. The emergence of Sinlibris owes much to the many students who have embraced this educational innovation. The program offers students a range of benefits, empowering them with skills in social-emotional and relationship learning. Practical skills that nurture self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and foster an ability to navigate differences are vital in times of great change. Investing in adolescent social-emotional and relationship-based education is not merely beneficial – it is a strategic imperative.
